It all started in the mid 80's... my passion for radio & television.

I was a 12 year old boy who enjoyed listening to radio stations, especially the local independent ones where I lived (Antwerp, Belgium). When on vacation in the South of Belgium with my grandparents, we used to always take a few trips to Luxembourg by car. I always sat in the front 'handling' the radio. It was on one of those trips that I discovered Radio Luxembourg.

This station (with it's programs in English & pop music) made such an impression on me, that today I still remember listening to the 1440 kHz. I even remember a program in Dutch, presented by Peter Vandam. A very professional DJ with a great voice.

The years passed by, the passion did not.

Then the internet showed up and a few years later digital cameras. It didn't take long before I started my first website, "AMFMradio.webb.be". A list of radio stations in the greater Antwerp area, which came with pictures of their broadcast antennas. I started with a Hewlett Packard with 1 million pixels, which I soon replaced by a better one (Canon Digital Ixus) and started expanding the site.

A trip to The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg brought back the memories and I was now finally able to take pictures of the transmitter sites at Junglinster and Marnach, which I had never seen up-close before.

Since that day I've been driving around taking pictures of antennas and placing them on the internet. I closed-down "AMFMradio.webb.be" in 2002, after I moved to another town, but still maintained a site called "the.antenna.site" which I closed-down in the winter of 2003.

In February of 2004 I launched "project208",
a reference to the 208 meters or 1440 kHz.
used by radio Luxembourg in the good old days.

I did however start using the name "the-antenna-site" again, a few years later. There's still a reference to "project208" in the favicon.

Since early 2009 this site is hosted on 2 continents.

I launched "project revamp" during October of 2009. This project is all about gradually renewing and expanding the site. The pages are getting a new look, countries have been added as well as new pictures. The revamp is planned to be completed by the end of 2010.

I've also invested in a new semi-professional digital camera, a Nikon D90. This means that since mid 2009 I've been taking pictures in high resolution to boost the quality even more.

It's safe to say that after all these years the passion is still burning.
